Most of Kota Kinabalu City backpackers hostels are concentrated in and around Gaya Steert and the Australia Place. Step-In Lodge has stepped out of these two main areas to set up house at Sinsuran Complex, which is even nearer to the sea front. Centre Point Shopping, Warisan Square and the Waterfront are all just five minutes walk from the Step-In Lodge, and the Philippines Market place, which is a good place to hunt for local souvenirs is right at the back. There are also many restaurants, cafes, bakeries and grocery stores in the Sinsuran Complex.

X-plorer Backpackers is a small hostel with about 7 to 8 rooms. Even though it is small, it comes with the standard clean rooms and it has a well lay out living lounge area that comes with a balcony.
