Located along Jalan Sulaman, opposite to Alamesra Plaza and just beside the entrance to University Malaysia Sabah, 1Borneo Hypermall is situated in an area which is the fastest growing sector in Sabah. 1Borneo Hypermall is just 7 km away from Kota Kinabalu City and about 13 km away from Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
The anchor tenants for 1Borneo Hypermall are Parkson, Giant hypermarket, Tune Store and Digital SenQ. Parkson, a fashion lifestyle and family department store , has a retail space of 110,000 square feet and occupies the ground and first floor. This is the second Parkson's outlet in Sabah and the biggest in Sabah. Giant hypermarket is well known for its ever low price groceries, and Digital SenQ has almost all the electrical appliances, from the highly desire flat screen TV to the ever helpful washing machines. Tune Store, a spin off company from AirAsia, is a department store which encourage shoppers to join their loyalty programme and earn value points.
Clothing defines people, and what would people do without their cloths. From office attires to the weekend casual wears, and from sport wear to clubbing trendy cloth, plenty of choices at 1Bornoe Hypermall. Notable fashion store is French Connection, others popular brands like Espirit, Nicole, Quicksilvers, Baleno, have outlets in 1Borneo Hypermall. There are also many local fashion retailers.
Sport has slowly become part of our life, and quality sport shoes, sportwears and sport equipment are well sort after these days. Branded sport companies like Nike, Adidas, and Puma have all set up retailing outlets in 1Borneo Hypermall. Grace One is a local company that carries many different branded sport products.
Furnitures outlets are represented by Cellini and Living Concept. Cellini has lots of high quality colours sofa sets to choose from. Ikea, the furniture king, is not coming to Kota kinabalu yet, but in Living Concept there are enough Ikea products to satisfy the local community. While Aussino has plenty of well design bedsheets, comforter, and towels for the bedroom.
Golden Screen Cinema (GSC) the biggest cinema chain in Malaysia, has opened a cineplex at 1Borneo Hypermall second floor. With 8 cinema halls in total, and with the latest sound system, movie goers will be very happy.
Many other interesting retailers are also present at 1Borneo Hypermall, like IT stores, Gift shops, decorative shops, and also luxury items like diamond, gold, and watches. Do come to 1Borneo Hypermall to check them out.
No shopping mall is complete without its food section, and 1Borneo has two different food sections at two different levels. The concourse floor at the basement of 1Borneo has the greatest concentration of fast food chains in the whole of Sabah. All the fast food families are here, leads by big brother McDonald, and follow by KFC, Pizza huts, Big Apple Donuts & Coffee, Kenny Rogers, Sushi King, and the lesser known RasaMas and Chicken Rice Shop. Michi a fine Japanese restaurant also has an outlet at this floor.
Tasty Food Village on the first floor is one of the best organized and biggest food court in Kota Kinabalu shopping malls. Hawkers style cooking, the true Malaysian way of eating out, is the main food serves here. Nasi Lemak, Fried Noodle, Prawn Mee, Roti Canai, Chicken Rice, Dim Sum, and many others are offered here. The payment is run by a coupon system and is also one of the first to be introduced in Kota Kinabalu.
Lately, coffee houses are getting increasingly popular with KK lites, a similar trend that's happening all over the world. Starbucks Coffee the best cafe in the world also makes its present at 1Borneo Hypermall with two outlets. The smaller of these outlets is on the second floor beside the GSC Cineplex, and the other one which comprises ground and 1st floor is at the south entrance. Dome Cafe, immediately opposite to Starbucks Cafe at the south entrance, is a popular brand around the Asia Pacific region. It has it first outlet in East Malaysia at 1Borneo Hypermall.
Novotel Hotel and Mercure Hotel are two of the larger 4 stars hotels at 1Borneo Hypermall. Tune Hotel which provides 5 star accommodation with price as low as RM 9 per night is at times unbelievable. But it is a fact where many travellers can attest to it. Best Western Courtyard Hotel is the fourth one. These four hotels have combine 800 plus rooms to service the thriving Sabah tourist industry. Many of these rooms will have a great view of Mt. Kinabalu on a cloudless day.
Since 1Borneo Hypermall soft opening on the 8th of June, 2008, it has created quite a buzz with the local community. As construction are still going on its Condominium blocks and hotel blocks, parking can be a little problem at time. How to go there?
City Bus opposite the Kota Kinabalu Court house has hourly bus that travel through Likas bay coastal highway costing just RM 1 per trip. In Warisan Square there are also shuttle buses servicing this route. Taxi fare from Kota Kinabalu City will cost RM 20, and from KKIA the fare will cost RM 40. (Note change of prices is most likely to happen because of the present oil crisis.)
